@LuFins-Dad said in Minnesota is winning ...: Wait, if the Census is the mechanism used to determine the population, how can they calculate a reporting percentage? The denominator of that equation is what they are trying to determine! In this instance, they are talking about the self response rate, i.e., the # of self responses divided by the number of surveys sent. The denominator is simply the number of surveys that have been sent out, and the Census Bureau knows how many they sent out.

Quote from Loki's link/article: "I spoke with Howard Hill, the owner of Howard K. Hill Funeral Services located in Hartford, Bloomfield and New Haven, who told me he saw a 166% increase in at-home deaths during a 30-day period from March 15 to April 15, compared to a year earlier."

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.....They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. " - C.S. Lewis

She was an international student coordinator, and also worked part time at a private high school doing the same sort of thing for their international student program. She did not like dealing with unruly students and stupid host families, many of whom are just in it for the paycheck and don't want to be bothered with the student living with them.

Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach. Those that can't teach, teach gym. Those that can't teach gym make videos on YouTube complaining about everything.

Considering how ambiguous at best and basically nonsensical at worst it is to think that America "has no friends" geopolitically, I would have to assume that those who think that, do not in fact feel that it sucks. They enjoy thinking it. It really wouldn't be hard to find friends of America, if you wanted to find them.

We are a Mustang family. My dad bought a 64.5. That got stolen and trashed so he bought a 68 convert. My brother had a 67 for many years, and I had a 65, 66 convert and a 67. Think Ford did a great job in the mid 2000's retro version and I will seriously consider a new mustang when we decide to buy a convertible.

Nothing obvious is ever considered a "major decision" so the fact that the decisions are major points to plenty of pros and cons to them. So among those decisions where the prediction of the outcome is low confidence, it helps psychologically to take no personal responsibility for the decision making process and accept what comes as if it was what nature demanded. It makes sense from that perspective. But the main thing is the sorts of decisions one would leave up to a coin, in this study. They are by definition of ambiguous "happiness" value and the very fact of removing personal responsibility and potential regret from the equation, is enough to tip the "happiness" scale in favor of that decision making process. It is for this reason that I believe in a system of government which would force all of its citizens, upon penalty of imprisonment, to make large life decisions based on a coin flip. It would be for their own good, and they would be happier. I care so much about other people that I would do that for them - force them to flip a coin to make their life decisions. Sometimes I marvel at how wonderful and pure my heart is, that I would go to these lengths, just to make other people happier.

I can relate to what he says. Risk aversion runs along a wide spectrum for people, and can change during different times of their lives. However, the safe space concept has become an excuse to be intellectually intolerant and lazy. Sharing ideas by having a speaker doesn't make you unsafe. It's a pity tactic like a tantrum. The mature response is to present your own ideas as the counterpoint, and then move on.
